Memoirs of a Geisha.
After about four months of on and off reading due to distractions at university and what have you I've finally managed to complete memoirs of a geisha. It was such an intense and ivolving read, I fell in love with the storey line and become attached to the characters allong the way. If you are not familiar with the story it's about a young girl sold into servitude by her parents, Chiyo is taken to a geisha house in Gion and has to work to pay off the debt of her purchase allong with the Kimono she was tricked into ruining by Hatsumomo.
The pivotal point of the book is when one day she meets the chairman who finds her crying by the river and buys her sweets to cheer her up, after this open act of kindness chiyo is inspired to become geisha so that she way one day become part of the charimans life. From this point on she is taken under the wing of Mameha, head of a rival geisha house. Under Mameha's tutaledge chiyo becomes sayuri, the most famouse geisha in all of Gion, kyoto. It's a tale of hardships and destiny that
Prior to reading this increadible novel I had already watched the film which was produced by Steven Spielburg. It is a beautiful adaptation to the book and the visual aspects are stunning.
